Vintage Fipa Large Oval Wooden Tray Sculpture - Tanzania
$596.00
Handcarved in Southwestern Tanzania many years ago by the Fipa people, also sometimes known as Wafipa. Trays such as this were made for their own cooking use. (Of course it is a decorative object outside of Africa). This object is carved out of a single piece of wood, which requires a fairly large tree. Almost everywhere around the edge of the tray large amounts of patina are present, which shows that this tray was used quite often and for a great length of time.
This tray measures: 18 5/8 x 14 1/4 x 4 1/4" (47 x 36 x 11 cm). The contained portion of the tray, the dimension excluding the handles, is 17" long (43 cm).
Please note that the stand used in our photography is NOT included.
