Ankole cattle, a breed of cattle common in East Africa, have extraordinarily large horns which are naturally shed periodically and are recycled in many forms, including this beautiful large, freeform shaped bowls. The horn colors vary; this one is the darkest of shades, almost totally black.

I took the photos of the man in whose studio these beautiful objects of African art are fashioned as well as the photo of the cow standing by the roadside. The other is an internet photo.
