Ankole cattle, a breed of cattle common in East Africa, have extraordinarily large horns which are naturally shed periodically and are recycled in many forms, including these beautiful long, narrow bowls. The horn colors vary; this one is among the darker shades.

I took the photos of the man in whose studio these beautiful objects of African art are fashioned as well as the photo of the cow standing by the roadside. The other is an internet photo.
