"Clamshell" shape baskets - Uganda
$59.00
These Batwa baskets incorporate techniques not found in any other African basket. To the coiled grass construction a supplementary raffia woven design is added. The Batwa - the Twa people, a “pygmy” people - live in the border area of southwestern Uganda, northwestern Rwanda and eastern Congo, in the area of the Ruwenzori Mountains, in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. They live among a native gorilla population just like we live among whitetail deer. We have this same basket design in 3 slightly different diameters.
3 x 10 1/2” diameter (7 x 25 cm), 2 3/4 x 9 1/2" (7 x 24 cm), 2 3/4 x 10" (7 x 25 cm)
