This very old female "maternity" - mother and child - figure is very typical of the Senufo people and employs the lost wax brass casting technique typical among many African peoples. The quality of this brass is extraordinary in that the proportion of zinc is so high that the color of the brass is not yellow, but grey. The woman's hairdo is characteristically Senufo. She is seated on a stool and is nursing her child.
