Traditionally, all children in Africa make their own toys out of found materials: discarded cans, wire, old sandals, tires, etc. Following this long-standing tradition modern artists in Mali are creating art in all kinds of forms. This one of a kind statue was made by such an artist, confirming the importance of contemporary art in modern Africa.

This is a Fulani woman, carrying a stack of gourds, identified by the traditional Fulani gold earrings she's wearing as well as her clothing and hairstyle.
