This is one of the finest quality Guro tribal masks I've ever found in 40 years of working in Ivory Coast. The execution is excellent from top to bottom. This is truly a very rare example of the art form albeit not at all traditional or ritual. It features a pair of hornbills face to face at the top, with a third bird holding a comb in its beak, on top of a human Guro style face with 2 sets of horns of 2 different types. The bottom is the mouth of an animal surrounded by birds. Fanciful, imaginary, combining Guro imagery in a beautifully rendered carving.
