This vintage, very well used, cloth is the real traditional Bambara "bogolanfini", popularly known as mudcloth, using the hand-painting technique which distinguishes genuine mudcloth. The term "mudcloth" derives from the unique substance used to produce the dye for this cloth, fermented mud. The basic cloth is a relatively loosely hand-woven cotton, using larger gauge handspun cotton which is widely grown in Mali.
This beautiful vintage cloth has no notable imperfections; it's a great example of the textile art of the Bambara people. It measures 53 x 38 1/2" (135 x 98 cm)
