This type of basket is a type of palm basket, woven from the stem of a palm branch. This variation uses a split palm frond which is much lighter in weight but is woven in 2 separate ways to make the wide band exterior pattern.  The basket was hand woven in the Republic of Benin.

This basket measures 14 1/2" deep x 22 1/2" diameter at the top
