These beautiful textiles were woven in Ivory Coast, West Africa by the Baule tribe to be used as clothing. This very large cloth was made for and use by a Baule gentleman as his formal wear, worn over the shoulders with one shoulder exposed, the traditional Akan men's style of dress.
Baule textiles are unique in Africa for the ikat techniques the Baule weavers often use. The great variety of patterns and colors make these among the most interesting fabrics made and used in Africa.
This textile measures 184 x 62" (163 x 109 cm)
