Bamana Animal Design Contemporary Mudcloth - Mali
$298.00
This type of Kuba cloth, known as "bushoong" is a durable fabric made of raffia: the background is a hand-woven black and features a zig zag central pattern with embroidered squares throughout. The zig zag is framed by natural straw-color and light brown geometric appliqué designs.
Handmade in the heart of The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the background cloth was woven by a male of the Bakuba tribe. Women typically accent the textile using sewing on the appliqués by hand. Kuba cloths are woven as a symbol for a person, couple, or family; thus having extravagant designs, patterns and shapes as a symbol of artistic creativity and workmanship.
This textile measures 126 x 22" (320 x 56 cm)
