Bamana Animal Design Contemporary Mudcloth - Mali
$298.00
This red & black textile, with white accents, is a traditionally hand-woven textile made of abaca fibers, aka Manila hemp. Abaca is the strongest natural fiber that exists. The abaca plant is in the banana family; please see photos in this listing of one of those plants and part of the process of extracting those fibers to be woven. Of course before weaving the fibers are dyed, using only natural dyes.
Extraordinarily, we know that this unique textile was woven by Marilyn Tuan.
Approximately 6 3/4 yards, this textile measures exactly 244 x 24" (620 x 61 cm)
