Hmong Tribal Vietnamese Vintage Cloth Ball
This small textile ball is covered with hand woven, hand dyed, hand embroidered and hand appliqueed cloth. This is a beautiful example of traditional Vietnamese Hmong textile manufacture: The cloth itself is handspun, handwoven linen (they call it "hemp"). The background is dyed using a traditional batik indigo technique. The relief designs are embroidered after small appliqueed squares are added. This is a fine example of an artistic style which is disappearing. Because of the value and rarity of this cloth when there are small pieces which are too small to incorporate into a garment or another, larger cloth Hmong women make these balls. We sell these assorted.
The sizes vary from 2 1/2 to 3" in diameter (6 to 8 cm)
