This type of Kuba cloth, known as "bushoong" is a durable fabric made of raffia: a  hand-woven background in black cloth, with raffia appliqués in natural straw color and brown geometric patterns.

Handmade in the heart of The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the background cloth was woven by a male of the Bakuba tribe. Women typically accent the textile using sewing on the appliqués by hand. Kuba cloths are woven as a symbol for a person, couple, or family; thus having extravagant designs, patterns and shapes as a symbol of artistic creativity and workmanship.
