This type of Kuba cloth, known as "bushoong" is a durable fabric made of raffia: a  hand-woven background in black cloth, with raffia appliqués in natural straw color, light brown & grey geometric patterns.

Handmade in the heart of The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the background cloth was woven by a male of the Bakuba tribe. Women typically accent the textile using sewing on the appliqués by hand. Kuba cloths are woven as a symbol for a person, couple, or family; thus having extravagant designs, patterns and shapes as a symbol of artistic creativity and workmanship.
