This unusual design basket is among the many varieties used by the people in Burkina Faso. They use it to wash grain - millet, sorghum, corn - before grinding it into flour; the many holes woven into it serve to drain the water from the grain before drying it and then pounding it. For us it is primarily decorative. We include the round "donut" base as it does not stand very straight on its own.
