These Batwa baskets stand out among African baskets due to their exceptionally tightly woven, small coils as well as their contemporary designs. The Batwa - the Twa people, a “pygmy” people - live in the border area of southwestern Uganda, northwestern Rwanda and eastern Congo, in the area of the Ruwenzori Mountains, in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. They live among a native gorilla population just like we live among whitetail deer.
