This basket is a commonly used one in Burkina Faso villages, flaring gently from the bottom to the top, with handles at the top. It comes in two sizes, the taller one with a thin purple band around it. In Africa this would be a very useful basket for carrying and storing fruit and vegetables. For those of us living outside of Africa it's great for storing anything at all and is decorative as well.
