Hmong Tribal Vietnamese Vintage Cloth
This small textile is all hand woven, hand dyed, hand embroidered and hand appliqueed. It is a small component part of what could have been a larger textile, but it was sold like this instead. This is a beautiful example of traditional Vietnamese Hmong textile manufacture: The cloth itself is handspun, handwoven linen (they call it "hemp"). The background is dyed using a traditional batik indigo technique. The relief designs are embroidered after small appliqueed squares are added. This is a fine example of an artistic style which is disappearing.
This beautiful textile measures 14 1/2 x 29 1/2" (37 x 75 cm)
