Large Deep Flexible Swampgrass Basket, Cloth Rim - Benin
This large flexible deep basket, handwoven by the women of the Mina tribe in coastal Benin, was made of the very plentiful lowland grass from the swampy delta area of Benin. We have added a strip of handwoven aso oke cloth in a deep maroon color to accent the beauty of this already exceptional basket. This aso oke cloth was made by the skilled Yoruba weavers of Nigeria. We sell full pieces of this cloth separately. This type of basket is as useful for us as they are for the people of Benin although we would be more likely to put a large plant in it and they would use it to transport and store food items.
