Bark Cloth Leather Handle Handbag - Uganda

This extraordinary handbag is made from the non-woven fabric from the bark of a ficus Natalesis, a rare fig tree, called in Uganda "the butuba tree", an integral part of the identity of Uganda. The bark, having been removed from the tree is processed by pounding by hand until it becomes much thinner. It is decorated with natural raffia fibers. The handle is of leather, adjustable.
