Handwoven from local swampgrass in the lowlands of coastal Togo, West Africa this baskets is the natural color of the straw, woven with an equal quantity of green dyed straw in a fine checkerboard that makes the basket appear solid green. This basket is not a replica: it is a one of a kind product, originally made for local tribal use. The Mina people in this area of Africa use this basket to carry just about anything they need to carry, to store items and to keep items available in markets for sale.
