Original Small Black Lives Matter Theme Painting on Wood from Togo
The world, including Africans, pays close attention to events in America. A strong testament to this phenomenon is this artwork which was painted in the wake of the 2020 George Floyd murder in 2021 by a young African artist in Togo.
This artist signs his name "A. Folly". The artist painted this to take advantage of the strong focus around the world on the rights of black people everywhere, especially in the US and across Africa. It appears that he reproduced images he found on the internet of a wide range of African and US events.
This painting is of Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana, on a backdrop of the flag of Ghana. Ghana was the first country to gain independence from its European colonizing power, in 1957. Nkrumah remains an exceptionally popular figure across Africa.
