Rhythm Pounder statues are used in a dance by the Senufo people of northern Ivory Coast. In the traditional dance there some of the statues would be in the form of a woman, others of a man. This statue is a contemporary replica of the original allowing the artist to exhibit his creativity through the addition of some stylistic elements: hornbill bird on the top and a mask and another, smaller, figure on the bottom. The basic form of the statue, as in the traditional figures, is a man.
