The Buyu reside in a small area between the Lualaba River and Lake Tanganyika in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
People of the Buyu tribe worship nature spirits and ancestors. Thus, when bad situations arise, they look to the will of the ancestors. To do this, The Buyu personified their chiefs and ancestors in the form of figures. These figures of similar is style and are characterized by a large head, long circular torsos, and square shoulders.
