This pendant is one of the region-specific pendant series - said to be a series of 21 - that the Tuareg people of Niger use. This one is from the In Gall region, characterized by coin silver encasing a piece of red glass, this one etched with Islamic designs. The size of this one is unusually large, 2 1/8" tall (5.4 cm). 

We have strung this pendant on an alagom, a leather choker, unique to Niger, made of 14 very thin strands of twisted leather, lending a fineness to its quality. We sell these chokers separately on this site.
