Made from from vegetable fibers by the Tutsi women. The grasses of these trees were soaked in the water for roughly two weeks until the fibers become pliable. 

What really sets these baskets apart from the rest is their very intricate weaving patterns, their use of very fine woven material and the extraordinarily tight weave. The range of patterns is quite diverse which shows the innovation of the highly skilled women of Rwanda who make them. 

This basket was used for many years and manifests all that age by the patina all over it. Over most of the surface the quality is excellent although there are imperfections on the rim and there is one spot on the rim and the entire base that have been reconstructed. This was done by the people using it in order to continue to use it. This is a very common attribute of these baskets, proving their value to the owner. The only reason they undertake such repairs is because of their high appreciation for the exceptional quality of the basket.
