Vintage Baule Textile "Wrapper" | 69" x 44"
Originally woven in Ivory Coast, West Africa by the Baule tribe to be used as clothing. The native people whom used them refer to these textiles as "wrappers". Often these textiles can be seen in matching pairs since one textile will be worn around the waist of the women, while the other used to tie the baby on her back.
Since these are vintage, we are privileged to obtain these fabrics in such good condition. One unique aspect of the Baule textiles are their diversity in pattern and color choice. There are so many combinations that it makes each one a unique piece of art and can really stand out. They range from complex patterns and colors to simple which is great for a wide rage of environments.
Each textile is composed of many small bands (roughly 6") that are sewn together. In many of the baule textiles, each band can be determined by the solid line that travels horizontally through the textile. The ends of the textile have soft tassels, often of multiple colors, which are an amazing accent to the textile that gives it a great look.
