The Dinka are a group of people whom reside in South Sudan. This headrest hand-carved from a single piece of wood. In many African cultures, headrests such as these are used to support the head during sleep. However, in some cases, the headrest is used to preserve a sophisticated hair style. In traditional African culture beds were not like western beds. In fact, many people would sleep on the ground, or nap on the ground for a short period of time during travel.
