Vintage Tuareg Mauritanian Travel Chest

This item was personally bought by D.R. Spetka on a trip to west Africa and has remained in his personal collection ever since. Apparent signs of patina on the edges and copper oxide on the inside of the lid make it evident of its age. These are occurrences that require both time and use to develop.
Constructed of wood, iron, aluminum, bronze, and copper making this chest a one of a kind item that shows its intricacy of design while maintaining such an accurate symmetry. Using many different metals allows for superior coloration and contrast that truly satisfies. Hundreds of copper and aluminum fastens were hammered into the iron lattice to keep it secure to the wood. Patina is very evident on the sides of the chest, where people are most commonly lifting and moving the chest.
