Vintage Traditional Bogolan Mudcloth Mali African Textile | 56 x 34"
This vintage, very well used, cloth is the real traditional Bambara "bogolanfini", popularly known as mudcloth, using the hand-painting technique which distinguishes genuine mudcloth. The term "mudcloth" derives from the unique substance used to produce the dye for this cloth, fermented mud. The basic cloth is a relatively loosely hand-woven cotton, using larger gauge handspun cotton which is widely grown in Mali.
This cloth is in remarkably good condition, in consideration of its age. It measures 56 x 34 1/2" (142 x 88 cm)
