Rhythm Pounder statues are used in a dance by the Senufo people of northern Ivory Coast. In the traditional dance there some of the statues would be in the form of a woman, others of a man. This statue is a contemporary replica of the original allowing the artist to exhibit his creativity through the addition of some stylistic elements: hornbill birds on the top and the bottom in contrasting wood colors. The basic form of the statue, as in the traditional figures, is a woman.
