African Black Recycled Metal Fish Wall Ornament - Mali
$196.00
Hornbill statues are used ritually by the Senufo people of southern Mali/northern Ivory Coast. Most of the animals and birds in the environment in which the Senufo and other similar tribes live are venerated for their contribution to the lives of the individuals and the community. This statue is a contemporary replica of the original allowing the artist to exhibit his creativity through the addition and manipulation of some stylistic elements: The basic form of the statue, as in the traditional figures, is the actual bird, the hornbill. Although not genuinely vintage, this figure has been made to appear that it is.
This figure measures:
34 1/2 x 34 1/2 x 7 1/2" (88 x 88 x 19 cm)
