This unique one of a kind traditional grigri pendant, strung on a simple cotton cord, was probably worn a man of the Wodaabe (aka Bororo, Peul, Peulh, Fulani) tribe of Niger for protective purposes, as well as personal adornment. The leather "pillow", made from goatskin, contained items of medicinal or spiritual value, in this case shell, which defend the wearer from whatever he or she may consider to be threatening to them. Objects of this type can be used as it was traditionally or its component parts can be extraordinary additions to modern jewelry creations.
