Authentic 19th-Century Qing Dynasty Chinese-Vietnamese Gilt Wood Pomegranate Wall Plaque Pair – Auspicious Prosperity Blessing
This rare matching pair of antique gold-gilt carved wood wall plaques, dating to the 19th century (Qing Dynasty), blends Chinese auspicious symbolism with Sino-Vietnamese craftsmanship—likely originating from export or regional traditions in Vietnam under Chinese cultural influence. Acquired two decades ago from a reputable dealer, these pieces showcase exceptional hand-carved detail: two split-open pomegranates (石榴, shí liu) symbolizing fertility, abundant descendants (numerous seeds evoking many children/sons), family harmony, enduring prosperity, and wealth—framed by intricate openwork golden branches, blooming flowers, fruits, and birds that enhance themes of growth and good fortune.
The vibrant red-lacquered pomegranate halves prominently feature gilt Chinese characters:
- First plaque: 商心 (shāng xīn) – "a heart for business" or "merchant's spirit" (商 = commerce/trade; 心 = heart/mind/intention) — a blessing for entrepreneurial dedication, shrewd dealings, and thriving commercial success.
- Second plaque: 無盈 (wú yíng) – "never full" or "inexhaustible abundance" (無 = without; 盈 = full/overflowing/surplus) — wishing for perpetual surplus, boundless wealth, and fortune/business/family riches that never deplete.
Together, the pair forms a powerful complementary invocation: the mindset for pursuing business success paired with endless, overflowing prosperity—ideal for homes, offices, shops, or collectors seeking meaningful feng shui charms from the Qing era.
Each one measures: 24 1/2 x 16 1/2” (62 x 42 cm)
